When TVs are cheapest
- Black Friday to Cyber Monday (27–30 November 2026): usually the deepest TV discounts of the year in Australia. See our Black Friday guide.
- End of financial year (June): the next-best window, with big cuts on larger screens.
- Boxing Day: good for clearance models, but popular sizes sell out early.
- When new models arrive: TV brands usually launch their new ranges in the first half of the year. Stores then clear the previous year's models, which are often the best value.
Last year's model is usually the smart buy
Picture improvements from one year to the next are usually small. A previous-year model at a clearance price often gives you most of the picture quality for much less money.
Compare the exact model number
The same TV can carry slightly different model codes at different stores, which makes price comparison harder. Check the screen size, panel type and year, and compare like with like. Then run the numbers through our deal checker.
Quick checklist
- Size: measure your wall and viewing distance before you shop.
- Panel: OLED for deep blacks in darker rooms, Mini-LED or QLED for bright rooms.
- Total cost: add delivery, wall mounting and any extended warranty.
- Your rights: Australian Consumer Law guarantees apply even to discounted TVs. ACCC: consumer guarantees.
Common questions
When is the cheapest time to buy a TV in Australia?
Usually Black Friday to Cyber Monday in late November, then EOFY sales in June. Clearance of previous-year models can also bring strong prices.
Are Black Friday TV deals real?
Many are, but check the price history. Some 'was' prices are set high just before the sale. Compare the exact model at two or three stores.
Should I buy last year's TV model?
Often yes. The improvements between years are usually small, and last year's models are discounted to clear stock.
