What to watch

Worth waiting for

Categories that reliably drop in price, and the sale where each usually drops most. Prices change daily, so every link opens the store to show today's price.

Australian sale dates

Plan big purchases around these. Each date shows how far away it is, so you know whether to buy now or wait.

Dates from the Click Frenzy sales calendar. End of financial year and Back to School are typical timings. Stores set their own start and end times.

How to spot a fake sale

A big red percentage means nothing unless the "was" price was real.

      1. Look up the price history. Price trackers and comparison sites show what the item really sold for over past months.
      2. Search the exact model number at two or three other stores. The "sale" price is sometimes the normal price elsewhere.
      3. Be careful with bundles. They can hide a small discount behind extras you don't need.
      4. Add delivery and payment fees to the total. Our deal checker does this for you.
      Buying tech on sale

Electronics get the biggest discounts, and have the most small print.

      1. Buy from the Australian site where you can. Grey imports may have different plugs, warranties or software regions.
      2. Last year's model on sale is often a better buy than this year's at full price.
      3. Check whether you're buying from the store itself or a third-party marketplace seller.
      4. Keep your receipt and order email for any warranty or consumer guarantee claim.
      Christmas shopping without the panic

The best prices and the last delivery dates land close together.

      1. Buy toys and gifts in the Black Friday window (late November). Prices are strong and delivery is still reliable.
      2. Retailers publish last shipping dates in early December. Order before them, not on them.
      3. Check the returns window. Many stores extend it for Christmas purchases, but not all.
      4. Leave clothes and homewares until Boxing Day if they're for you, not a gift.
Your rights when a deal goes wrong

Australian Consumer Law gives you automatic guarantees, sale or no sale.

      1. Products must be of acceptable quality and match their description, even when discounted.
      2. A "no refunds" sign doesn't remove these guarantees for faulty items.
      3. Contact the seller first and keep a written record of what you asked for.
      4. For official guidance, see the ACCC at accc.gov.au.
