Best time to buy a phone in Australia
Phone prices move around launch dates more than sale dates. Time it right and last year's flagship can cost far less than this year's.

Launches drive phone prices
Apple usually announces new iPhones in September, and Samsung usually launches its Galaxy S range early in the year. When a new model lands, the previous one often gets cheaper or goes on sale. That's usually the best-value moment to buy.
Sale events
- Black Friday: big cuts on previous-generation phones, and bonus gift cards on new ones.
- Click Frenzy and EOFY: good for mid-range Android phones and accessories.
Outright or on a plan?
Work out the total cost over the contract, not just the monthly figure. A cheap outright phone plus a SIM-only plan is often cheaper than a phone bundled on a plan.
Check before you buy
- Australian stock: imported phones may miss some local network bands or have a different warranty.
- Storage: you can't upgrade it later, so buy enough.
